My Teaching Style

Flute lessons with Emily provide a positive learning atmosphere and promote an overall love of music. She is enthusiastic about teaching the flute and personalizes each lesson to fit the needs of students’ individual learning styles. I strive to make each lesson informative and fun!

There are endless possibilities when it comes to lesson content, including but not limited to:

Flute Fundamentals—“How do I make a beautiful sound on the flute?” OR “How do I hold the flute comfortably?”

Refining technical skills—“How do I play softly and in tune?”

Practice strategies—“How do I practice a difficult measure?”

Audition preparation—“How do I enter into an audition with confidence?”

Overcoming performance anxiety—“How can I feel more relaxed on stage?”

Piccolo techniques—“How do I transition from flute to playing piccolo?”

Playing FUN music such as duets with me and repertoire spanning from Classical, Pop, Folk, Harry Potter and SO much more!

Flute Fundamentals

There are certain essential exercises which will be part of every lesson, including scales and tone exercises. Having great technique can not only lead to expressing yourself more easily. Students will be advised on how to practice effectively and efficiently.

Many middle and high school students have busy schedules filled with several activities, and learning to make the most of their practice time by staying motivated and organized is crucial to success.

When implementing all of this, students may see benefits such as advancing in their chair placement in school band, participation in Honor Bands and Allstate, and high scores at State Solo and Ensemble festivals.

I can speak personally for Emily Nazario’s teaching and performance! She has been a wonderful addition to the band teaching by team at Charlotte Latin! If your child plays flute, you should consider setting up lessons with Emily!

Emily is truly one of the best! My son plans to pursue a career in flute in part because of her teaching. She helped improve his tone and breathing techniques and encouraged him every step of the way.

Student Accomplishments

Superior ratings at State Solo & Ensemble Festivals

Acceptances and enrollments to college music programs, such as Ithaca College, Elon University, and Gardner-Webb University.

Honor band and All-State band placements across the country.

In 2022, I was informed by a GA band director that 13 of the 17 flute players in their program who auditioned for All-State that year, made it past the first round…the highest percentage ever!

We brought in Emily from UGA to work with the students at South Forsyth Middle and she almost instantly transformed our flute students. She helped lead our students, many who don’t take private lessons, to the highest level of District Honor Band, All-State, and solo and ensemble festival. Our flute section quickly became one of the top sections in our program. She is great with the youngest to the most advanced students. My students were so sad when Emily had to move to Charlotte. I give her my highest recommendation.
