ABOUT EMILY NAZARIO
Dr. Emily Nazario maintains a dynamic and versatile career as a solo artist, pedagogue, and chamber musician. As a soloist, Emily has been named a prizewinner or finalist in numerous competitions nationwide, including the 2026 NFA Baroque Flute Masterclass Competition (winner) and the NFA’s Young Artist Competition in August of 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona (quarterfinalist). As an orchestral and chamber musician, she has performed extensively at summer music festivals, including the Brevard Music Center, Hot Springs Music Festival, Zodiac Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, and Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy.
Prior to her appointment at the University of South Alabama, Dr. Nazario taught private lessons and worked as a sectional clinician for schools in the Charlotte metro area. She has also served on the flute faculty at the International School of Music in Bethesda, MD and the University of Georgia’s Community Music School.
Emily has lately found a new calling in musicians’ wellness and is dedicated to helping musicians sustain long and prosperous careers by incorporating injury prevention strategies such as Alexander Technique and Body Mapping into her teaching. She is currently a licensure trainee with the Association for Body Mapping Education.
Dr. Nazario holds degrees from the University of Georgia, University of Wyoming, and Ithaca College, with additional flute and baroque flute study from Conservatorium van Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Her primary teachers include Wendy Mehne, Mary Kay Robinson, Marten Root, Nicole Riner, Angela Jones-Reus, and Lea Pearson. Emily plays on a 9K heavy wall Muramatsu flute and a Simon Polak baroque flute.
Emily Nazario is originally from Brookeville, Maryland and is an avid traveler, birder, and aspiring home chef. She lives in Mobile, Alabama with her husband, pianist and musicologist Connor Austell.
